Clip Tool
Stretch, pitch and output
Tempo, pitch and stretch
Section titled “Tempo, pitch and stretch”The row under the header holds the detected tempo, Bars and Beats, Pitch with its grain controls, and the target BPM.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Bars, Beats | Set the clip’s length in bars and beats. The beat grid follows them, or the detected tempo, so edits line up musically. |
| Pitch | Shifts the pitch in semitones without changing the length. |
| Win, Trans | Grain Window and Transient controls, for tuning the character of the pitch shift and stretch. |
| Target BPM | Type a tempo and press Stretch for a pitch-preserving, loop-seamless stretch, from a quarter to four times the length. The button shows MIN or MAX when the target asks for more. |
Clip Tool also reads the key and tempo of the clip and shows them in the header, which is handy for matching samples to a track.
Getting the result into Live
Section titled “Getting the result into Live”Each output renders what the preview plays: the selection, or the loop while Loop is on. To render the whole clip, right-click and choose Clear selection first. Every output applies your gain, fades, stretch, channel and DC settings.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Process | Replaces the clip in place. A cropped result stays where that audio sat in the arrangement. |
| Copy to Arrangement | Drops a new clip just after the original. |
| → Simpler | Builds a new MIDI track with Simpler loaded and ready to play. |
| Clip Guard | Scales the result down if it would go over 0 dBFS. On by default; leave it on unless you want levels above full scale. |
Right-click the file name to rename the new sample before you render. Every edit is written to a fresh file in your project’s Samples/Imported/ folder, so you can always get back to where you started. Clip Tool acts on the one clip you right-clicked, not every clip that shares the same audio file.
