Folding stereo to mono
Section titled “Folding stereo to mono”With a stereo clip open, use the Channel row. Preview each mode with Space, keep whichever sounds fullest, then Process or send it to Simpler. Live cannot do this to the clip itself; Utility’s Mono switch only works while it plays.
| Mode | What it keeps | Reach for it when |
|---|---|---|
| Stereo | Both channels | The stereo image matters and nothing cancels. |
| Mixed | The mono sum | The channels are in phase: the natural fold-down. |
| Left, Right | One channel only | Summing cancels, giving a thin snare or missing bass. Audition both and keep the better one. |
| Side | Only what differs between the channels | You want the room or cymbals on their own. |
Long stems
Section titled “Long stems”- Opening takes a moment. Live prepares the clip’s audio before the waveform appears. It is working, not frozen.
- Pitch and stretch take time on long files. A moving progress bar, even a slow one, means it is working. Cancel stops the render and leaves your Set as it was.
- Very long clips open without preview. Above roughly 11 to 15 minutes of stereo, the editor shows the waveform outline and a note. Preview, sample zoom, ZC and Trim to Selection are off, but every edit and all the outputs still work on the full clip.
- If something fails, Clip Tool says what went wrong in a small dialog.
